History and Evolution of the Indian Book of Records

History and evolution of the Indian Book of Records

June 06, 2026

A simple but powerful idea is the starting point for every great institution: that human potential should be seen, celebrated, and remembered. That is exactly what the Indian Book of Records (IBRS) was based on. Today, it is one of the most trusted names in India for recognizing great accomplishments, but its story didn't start with a lot of fuss or formality. It started quietly, but with a purpose.

A Humble Beginning (1998)

In 1998, a small but ambitious group called the India Records Academy (IRA) got its start. It wasn't made to get attention. The original goal was much more down-to-earth: to support holistic education by getting students and others to explore their talents outside of school. These were the building blocks: extracurricular activities, creative pursuits, and skill-building.

But something strange started to happen. People started coming with skills that made everyone stop in their tracks. A kid who could figure out hard problems very quickly. An old man who had quietly crossed lines that no one had thought to measure. A normal woman doing something truly amazing. The group realized it was at the crossroads of something much bigger than education; it was seeing human greatness in its rawest form.

Growing Into Something Greater

Over time, the India Records Academy changed. It wasn't a sudden change; it happened naturally as the need to properly record and verify these amazing accomplishments grew. The team knew that getting recognition without being credible doesn't mean much. So they made one. There was a structured process for making decisions. Groups of experts were put together. There were rules. Before a claim could officially get the seal of recognition, it had to be watched, checked, and proven to be true. This was a big job, but it had to be done. The group wanted to make sure that when they said someone had done something amazing, it would mean something to the person who set the record, their family, and the world.

A New Name, A Bigger Vision (2025)

On August 15, 2025 — Independence Day, fittingly — the organisation took on a new identity and officially became the Indian Book of Records. The new name wasn't just a rebrand. It was a declaration of intent. It reflected how far the organisation had come and where it was headed — toward every corner of India, toward every individual who had something extraordinary to offer.

Since 2017, the institution has been owned and operated by Amazing Worldwide Achievers Limited, a reputed Indian public limited company. With all trademarks, copyrights, and intellectual property firmly in place, the organisation now operates with strong corporate governance, ensuring its legacy is protected and its future is secure.

What It Stands For

The Indian Book of Records is based on something very human: the idea that there are great people who are often overlooked. There are people who have pushed past limits that others didn't even know existed, not just athletes and celebrities. These people include teachers, farmers, children, seniors, and everyday people.

The best way to say what it stands for is its motto: "To Discover, Recognize, and Celebrate Human Excellence."

This isn't just a slogan. It affects every choice the organization makes, from how records are checked to how record holders are honoured. The people behind it really want to get it right, so the process is very thorough.

Reaching Every Corner of India

The organization's growth across the country has been one of the most important parts of this journey. The Indian Book of Records has franchises in 14 states and judging teams in 23 states as of today. The goal is clear and unchanging: no one should miss out on talent just because of where they live.

No matter if someone is trying to set a record in a big city or a small town, they will get the same level of professionalism, fairness, and attention. That consistency is what makes the praise real.

Carrying the Story Forward

The stories behind the certificates and titles are what really make the Indian Book of Records special. Stories of people who kept going, who quietly worked hard, and who believed in themselves when few others did.

The organization keeps these stories alive through record-breaking events, media campaigns, and live demonstrations. This gives people a platform and inspires the rest of us.

India is home to more than a billion people. Among that huge, diverse, and always-changing population are people who can do the most amazing things. The Indian Book of Records is there to find them, honour them, and remind the world and themselves of what they can do.

Incredible India. Incredible Indians. Jai Hind!
